Thinking about taking a trip to Thailand? Overwhelmed by the surplus of activities on offer and locations to visit? Well no need to panic, below is a detailed plan in order for you to maximise your time in Thailand.

Step 1 -> First, you need to get to Thailand..

Flights to Thailand can be costly, so it's always a good idea to book tickets as soon as you can. Flights from Ireland to Bangkok will usually set you back 500-800 euro for return flights. However, it is definitely worth checking flights from other cities and comparing prices. For example, flights from Nice to Bangkok can cost 300 euro, and flights from Dublin to Nice can cost as little as 40 euro. So don't book too hastily without exploring all your options first.

You will most likely have a layover on your way to Thailand. Dubai is one the main airports connecting Europe and Asia and it definitely has some hidden gems. Travelling if you're one of these people, you'll be glad of a layover in an airport such as Dubai.

DUBAIDUTYFREEWhether you want to relax in the zen gardens, take a nap in a sleeping pod, get a soothing massage or 'shop till you drop' in their boutiques, Dubai airport has got you covered! A large variety of restaurants is also on offer so no need to bring a packed lunch!on long distance flights isn't to everybody's liking;

I definitely recommend bringing a change of clothes on board with you; once you arrive in 33 degree Bangkok, you'll seriously regret wearing that long sleeve tracksuit just because it was most comfortable for the journey!

Step 2 -> Arrival in Bangkok..

You've made it to Thailand! Bangkok is a city that never sleeps; you could spend a full month there and still not see everything! However, if you only plan on spending a couple of days in Bangkok, I would recommend taking full advantage of the sky train. Not only does it whisk you around Bangkok at high speeds, it is also fully air conditioned.. a bonus in a city as hot and humid as Bangkok.

Our top 5 recommendations for your time in Bangkok include:

  1. Chatuchak Market - this is a shoppers' heaven: 27 acres of stalls and all at local prices.. what more could you ask for?
  2. Quench your thirst at a rooftop bar - with a unique skyline, Bangkok has several amazing rooftop bars to take full advantage of this.
  3. Eat at a street food market - thai takeout will never be the same again after you have experienced a real thai food market. You will be spoiled for choice and pay incredibly low prices!
  4. Watch a Muay Thai event - one of the most popular sports in the country and a guaranteed way to immerse yourself in the local culture.
  5. Visit the Grand Palace - take a tour in a palace once home to a King!

Step 3 -> Visit Chiang Mai

Do you fancy immersing yourself in local culture? If so, there's no better place! Chiang Mai boasts of historical sites such as Doi Suthep and the old city temples which are without a doubt worth visiting.

If you're an elephant lover (let's be honest, who isn't?), why not visit the elephant jungle sanctuary and see the incredible animals in their natural habitat.

(Side note: on your travels throughout Thailand there will be several locations that offer elephant rides. Please do not participate in these activities; these animals have been victims of cruelty their entire lives).

Step 4 -> Hike through Khoa Sak National Park

If you're an avid nature lover who enjoys spending their time outdoors then this wildlife reserve is the perfect place for you.

Surrounded by jungle covered mountains, Khoa Sak national park has a lake where you can go kayaking, and if you're lucky enough you might see some of the wildlife which includes; elephants, deer, monkeys and bears! Several trails are also on offer if you enjoy hiking.

Step 5 -> Time for some island hopping

After visiting several heritage sites and hiking through jungles, what better way to end your time in Thailand than relaxing on some of the country's famous islands. No doubt all 8000 are incredible and unique in their own way, however, below are 3 we would highly recommend you visit:

  1. Koh Tao - the country's most famous island. Despite the increasing numbers of tourists coming to visit this island, it has managed to retain it's amazing natural beauty. A perfect location for snorkelling; whether you want to snorkel for a few hours or get your PADI license, Koh Tao offers you both.
  2. Koh Samui - slightly more pricey.. This location boasts many 5 star resorts so if you're not in the mood to 'splash your cash', steer clear of this island. However, this island can redefine your idea of relaxation. Prepare yourself for exotic beaches, delicious fresh food and all night long beach parties...
  3. Koh Lanta - actually a collection of small islands. Islands which boast of incredible wildlife including tigers and stunning national parks. Once you're finished exploring one island why not take a short boat ride over to the next paradisal island.. I mean can life get any better?
