Healthy Spots to Eat in Dublin

Where you can indulge and yet feel virtuous

Gone are the days salads are considered rabbit food. Dublin is now bursting with places in the city that serve up hearty, healthy, deliciousness and nutrition to fill you up for the afternoon.

Whether it’s to get through the daily grind or keeping it fresh come the weekend, we have scored the city for the top salad bars. Today’s post will focus on our TOP 3 locations for the best salads in Dublin, all in walking distance of Stephen’s Green.

  1. Eathos

I think its apt to use their own words to describe this little gem and that is “Thoughtful, wholesome food that makes you happy”. Their philosophy is that food is about enjoyment and I can confirm, I was pretty happy leaving here after my lunch.

Located Baggot Street upper and another café on Baggot Street lower, which ever you choose, you’ll feel the vibe as you walk through the doors. Greeted first by a mouth-watering display of delights in the patisserie, freshly baked each morning, followed by the stunning display at the salad and protein counter, packed full of vibrant, comforting and wholesome food. You’ll feel happy just looking at the options if I’m honest.

The menu is inspired by world cuisine paying particular homage to Eastern Mediterranean cuisine all made with artisan Irish ingredients with produce from Dublin, Cork, Kerry & Wicklow.

  1. Cocu

Cocu’s philosophy is quality food and a desire to eat healthy, while maintaining a busy lifestyle. Their menu is centered around three key principles; quality, simplicity & creativity. Two locations in Dublin’s fair city; Baggot Street upper and the Station Building on Hatch street (my fav personally, I just love the building).

For lunch; ‘Create Bowl, Choose Base, Add a Sprinkle’ salad box filled with a few of your fav-ourite things!  Spiced turkey, middle eastern chicken or baked flaked salmon, just to name a few of my go-to bowl options.

For Brekky; If you’re a fan of rainbow coloured Acai Bowls topped with any-number of delicious toppings then this is the spot! Pleasingly heavy on the toppings that vary depending on the seasons, and options like coconut and mango curd, grains, honey, pistachio butter, bananas, almonds, and berries will keep you feeling happy and full well into the afternoon.

  1. Blazing Salads

Blazing Salads opened its wholefood deli on Drury Street in 2000, after seeing a gap in the market for those who enjoyed delicious, wholesome, convenient vegetarian food - consider them the OG of healthy salad bars in Dublin. They offer a wide range of delicious soups, salads, cakes & savouries in which ingredients are seasonal, organic, Fairtrade, independent, and cooperatively produced (pretty impressive). Not to mention made fresh-daily onsite.

Self-service, “a little bit of this & a little bit of that” is my favourite kind of set-up for lunch and Blazing Salads is exactly that. Whether it’s your plate (large or small) or a salad box you’re filling to the brim, you are spoiled for choice; hot, cold, hearty, light and a plethora of sauces, hummus, nuts and seeds to pimp out your salad too.

Don’t just take my word for it, Blazing Salads has been nominated by the Irish Restaurant awards again this year 2020, having been nominated every year since 2017.
