Top places for a takeaway coffee & nibbles this lockdown..

Ciara Carmody

Coffee culture has exploded in Dublin in recent years, and these lockdowns certainly haven’t stopped it in its track. There are hundreds of places to go for your coffee and snack fix, but where are the best ones? Well… I can help with that. Here are my top 5 places in Dublin for an amazing coffee and a delicious snack..

Mugg Ugly Sandyford

mugg ugg

Starting off we have Mugg Uggly. Voted top 4 in the Dublin coffee championship 2021. MU is situated just off the Glencairn Luas stop, surrounded by gorgeous old oak trees and serves their customers from an old remodelled shipping container.

Pair your coffee with the delicious sweet treats they have on offer such as cookies, cinnamon swirls, croissants or go savoury with their tasty homemade sausage rolls.

You NEED to try this place (if its within your 5km radius of course). Oh and did I mention its dog friendly?

Strand Fare Sandymount

strand fare

Next up we have one of my new found favourites for a weekend jaunt – Strand Fare in Sandymount. A coffee house in the heart of the village that stocks all the treats from Bread 41 (drool) and the best sambos Sandymount has to offer. Strand Fare also offers the iconic ‘Batch Cookie’ which is the size of a small adults fist but absolutely heavenly and I would not lie to you.

Located at just a 15 minute walk from Sandymount Beach, Strand Fare is the ideal place to grab your coffee and a bite to eat to go for a stunning (chilly) walk along the coast.

Happy Out Bull Island

Happy Out has two locations across Dublin but it still manages to keep that real local, unique café vibe. What makes the Bull island location better you ask? well that that photo speaks for itself.

Blissful on a sunny day, Happy Out is a great chill place to visit. Get through the midweek slump with their silky smooth speciality coffee or cure that weekend hangover with their iconic breakfast bap. Thank me later.

Coffee Works Lucan

One of our favourite places in Dublin. Coffee Works is a bustling neighbourhood café, with a very cosy vibe. This place is any coffee lovers dream. With such a welcoming feel, the cafe offers Coffee (obvs), treats and unreal freshly made sambos.

This spot really feels like a home away from home.

Thru The Green Dundrum

thur the greenAnd last but by no means least we have Dublins first drive through coffee spot. Similar to Mugg Uggly, Thru The Green is operated out of a remodelled shipping container. They offer a range of sweet treats and unreal coffee, ideal for a cuppa on the go. There are some healthy bits like porridge, soup and sambos. Don't worry though the sweet toothed are covered with the Chocolate & Caramel Triangles, brownies, flapjacks and more. Heaven.

All this plus the added bonus of not having to step foot outside the car? It doesn't get much better than that.

...I hope thats your weekend plans sorted!
