Chicken wings are a delicious Super Bowl staple, or so I’ve been told, honestly I don’t know. I don’t watch American football…

However, it did get me thinking, what makes the perfect wing? Where is the best one in Dublin? What purpose does a chicken wing have? Is it a snack? A sharable platter? A vehicle for sauces? These are the philosophical questions that keep me up at night.

After many hours contemplating, I’ve narrowed it down to 5 key components: Quantity, Price, Flavour, Consistency and “Wow factor”. These are my 5 key metrics to the “perfect wing”.

Alas, I have yet to find the wing of the gods, but these five places meet the requirements and are top contenders for wing supremacy. #CraveDublin

I urge you to try them out and go support local. Remember to stay within your 5km radius. Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Follow the current government guidelines. The quicker we’re out of this lockdown the sooner I can continue my search for the best wings in Dublin…

Elephant & Castle

These are the wings I’ve definitely eaten the most. Great before concerts, Friday nights out, Friday nights in, date nights and breakups. You name it, these wings have comforted me through it all.

Wishbone

Suffice to say, Wishbone’s specialty is their wings. They offer buffalo and sticky BBQ wings as their regular staples with new different sauces every weeks. A must try place for to flavour extravaganza.

Location: Montague Street

TriBeca

TriBeca boasts a variety of dishes from salads to burgers and beyond. However, the first dish at the top of the menu is their signature spicy buffalo wings, all above the rest of the dishes. Where it belongs, reigning supreme as one of the best wings in Dublin.

Location: Ranelagh

Riba

An Italian restaurant in the heart of Stillorgan with a portfolio of delicious dishes not wing related. But we’re here about the wings. I’ll leave review about their Italian dishes for another time. This south Dublin restaurant is an under appreciated gem, their wings are just bellissimo!

Location: Stillorgan

Honourable Mention: Blue Bar

So many have told me that this place is without a doubt the home of the best wings in Dublin. I am certain the whole population of Skerries and more have suggested this place to me at this point. Unfortunately, I have yet to try it, so my opinions are purely from referrals.

But if so many people are so passionate about Blue Bar, it must be good and worth the honourable mention.

Location: Harbour Road, Skerries
