LOCKDOWN DATE IDEAS

Keeping the romance alive during level five is a struggle, we get it. But let’s not give up! There are definitely some fun, novel ways to keep things exciting with your significant other. Here we provide a list of some lockdown date ideas you may not have thought of, be it at home dates, outdoor dates or something creative to do together.

  1. Tie-dye – we know, you were inundated with rainbow t shirts and tracksuits during our first experience of Covid restrictions, BUT did you take part? More importantly, did you take part together? If not, this is the perfect at home date idea for a productive couple’s weekend. Each pick out the item or items that you are willing to give your partner creative license over, swap them, then get to work. You can design these to match each other, or you can take it upon yourselves to try and craft the garment of your partner’s dreams before gifting it back to them. Either way, these outfits and/or accessories will serve as a reminder of the fun you had making them together and the lockdown love life that inspired them.

  1. Paint your favourite photos- While lockdown restrictions prevent you from going far and wide to make new memories together, why not take an artistic walk down memory lane and recreate some of your favourites? It miht not sound like your cup of tea but trust us, this is such a romantic date idea. For this creative at home date, pull up your favourite photos of the two of you and each try to paint one. They really don’t have to be good, so do not worry if you’re not much of a Michaelangelo, this is just for fun. The combination of reminiscing and producing a sentimental piece that you can either hang above your bed or hide under it is sure to keep you sweet on each other all day long.

  1. Rock, Paper, Scissors Dinner- this trend went viral on social media app TikTok recently as couples thwarted by Covid-19 restrictions looked for improvised ways to spend date night in lockdown. The idea is simple, play four rounds of rock, paper, scissors to decide who chooses the drinks, starters, main course and dessert for the evening of your fun date (Bonus points for ending the infinite cycle of “you pick” and “I don’t mind” many of us get trapped in!). This can be done by collecting from establishments doing take away, or simply visiting the supermarket and committing to make the dishes yourselves if you’re up to it.

  1. Walk a Marathon- a friend of mine said last winter she never wanted to go for another “coffee and a walk” again, but unfortunately for her, we are now once again in level 5 lockdown here in Ireland. If aimless strolls have become mind numbing, why not make it a challenge. Set the goal of walking a marathon with your partner and plan it out. Get up nice and early so you can see both the sunrise and the sunset thanks to our current short sunlight hours. During the course of this marathon walk, you will no doubt run out of chat (it’s not like many of us have much news at this point) so it’s a great idea to play some would you rather games, or have a list of conversation- starting questions at the ready. This is a great way to get to know how your partner thinks and get your steps in all at once, topped off with the fabulous sense of achievement at the end of this alternative outdoor date idea!

  1. Cooking Demo- If you’re missing your favourite restaurant date nights, why not try to chef up your most loved dishes at home? Following cook-along tutorials can often be a lot easier than simply reading a recipe. YouTube has a load of videos from celebrity chefs demonstrating their restaurant dishes, and the Wagamama franchise has come out with a series of “Wok from Home” cook along videos where a Wagamama chef recreates the restaurants popular dishes with step-by-step instructions on how you can make it yourself- the perfect at home date night and chance to try a fun new recipe!
This is a great idea and just as, if not more, romantic than having dinner made by one partner for the other- if your culinary skills aren't quite up to scratch we're sure you can make up for it by making it with love <3
