How Rock Climbing Provides a Rigorous Full-Body Workout.

Posted by Eimhin Behan on Feb 16, 2021 11:43:05 AM

Anyone who has ever engaged in rock climbing or bouldering, the name for climbing on low rock formations without a rope, can testify to the strain the activity puts on the body. When positioned vertically, the muscles in your hips and torso strain to keep your lower body in place against the wall. Arching your back, you move one hand up to grasp on to the next hold - your thighs and calves leaving the sensation of a deep burn as they struggle with the pressure being exerted upon them. Eventually, as you lodge your hand into the next hold, the muscles that are close to giving up are relieved as the muscle group in focus shifts. The process is repeated methodically as you gradually scale the wall.

How Art Helps to Relieve Stress.

Posted by Eimhin Behan on Feb 15, 2021 1:12:55 PM

When we were children, most of us were given artistic licence by our elders to sculpt something out of playdough, paint a picture using only our fingers, or draw using crayons and various other materials. As time passes however, we tend not to express ourselves through art as we once did in our youth, forgetting just how powerful the activity really is. Besides the random doodle on the side of a journal, most adults deem themselves 'bad' at creating art and don't believe its worth their time. However, this is untrue and there are still significant benefits that can be achieved through art, one of life's greatest stress relieving tools. Regardless of how artistically inclined an individual perceives themselves to be, the positives are there for everyone to enjoy. Art is often overlooked as so many fail to recognise just how valuable it can be and the way in which it can help them in life.

Freezebury - Guided Breathing Techniques With Wim Hof

Posted by Eimhin Behan on Feb 8, 2021 3:57:36 PM

'Freezebury' is an initiative conceived by former Leinster rugby player Damien Browne which entails sea swimming in the piercing cold waters on the shores of Ireland. The idea of this highly challenging activity is to push your boundaries and step outside of your comfort zone. Each day the candidate partaking in the challenge is encouraged to stay in the water one minute longer than the previous day, building towards the end goal of staying in the water for 28 minutes on the final day of the month. According to Browne, mental toughness plays a massive role in this challenge and controlling the breath is a vital method of remaining calm and focused whilst submerged in the water.
