Had your holiday plans cancelled for another summer because of lockdowns? Well, fear not, because we have three luxurious Irish golf hotels for you to visit this summer. With the trend of the staycation likely to return this, it is important to get in early before these hotels are all booked out. All three hotels are world-renowned, with the best facilities Ireland can offer, and have top-class golf packages. If you’re travelling with somebody who’s not a massive fan of golf, don’t worry, there are a range of other activities at all three of these destinations.
K Club
The K Club is a luxurious 5-star hotel located in Straffan, County Kildare, and is arguably best known for hosting the Ryder Cup in 2006. More recently, it hosted the Irish Open in 2016. Both of these took place on the Palmer North golf course, with the Palmer South hosting multiple European Opens. Both courses are available to those staying at the hotel. The hotel also hosts a truly innovative golf simulator.
The K Club offers multiple golf packages, or ‘Stay and Play’ deals, where you get the opportunity to not only play on the famed courses themselves, but also gives you the chance to relax, enjoy full Irish breakfasts, a four course dinner, and access to the leisure facilities (the exact offerings differ depending on which of the four golf packages is chosen).
Price Range: €170 - €310 per night/person
Adare Manor
Located in County Limerick, Adare Manor is another fantastic staycation option, boasting five-star facilities and the 2012 ‘World’s Leading Boutique Golf Resort’ award from the World Travel Awards. The golf club at the manor has hosted the Irish Open twice, most recently in 2008, and will be the venue of the Ryder Cup’s return to Ireland in 2027. The course itself has 18 holes and was designed by award-winning golf-architect Tom Fazio.
Similar to the K Club, Adare Manor offer a golf package for guests, which includes access to the course as well as two nights stay and breakfast each morning. With regards to dining, there are multiple options within the grounds of the hotel, with the ‘Oak Room’ earning a Michelin Star in 2020. It is not solely a golf hotel however, as there are many other activities available for guests, ranging from axe throwing and archery to whiskey tasting and historical tours.
Price Range: €1,000 - €1200 package (two nights for two people)
Old Head of Kinsale
Just outside of the town of Kinsale, County Cork, lies the luxurious Old Head of Kinsale, which has an eighteen-hole golf course. Both the course itself, and the suites have stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The accommodation is made up of nineteen grand Seaview Suites all with private terraces, as well as two large presidential suites, with the O’ Connor Suite opening in September of last year. The Old Head also offers spa treatments with a sauna and steam room among the facilities available. In terms of drinking and dining, the de Courcey restaurant in Old Head offers freshly caught seafood from the Atlantic Ocean, and the Lusitania Bar offers local craft beers among other beverages.
Just 10 minutes from the suites and golf course is the charming town of Kinsale, which has plenty to offer tourists. Although some facilities may not be available due to lockdowns, visitors to the area will still find plenty of top-quality restaurants and bars to eat in, explore the beautiful scenery, and even partake in some water activities such as sailing and surfing.
