As an island on the coast Europe, Ireland is surrounded by the fresh waters of the Atlantic Ocean and boasts not only some of the most scenic views in the world, but is also home to one of the most perfectly conditioned fishing grounds in the EU.

These waters provide optimal conditions for growing and tending to a variety of species which includes Irish whelks, oysters, lobsters, crabs, trout and scallops. However, although we grow numerous species here in Ireland, we are best known for our organic Irish Atlantic salmon and mussels.

Each of these species are also cared for to the highest regards as all Irish seafood suppliers follow the EU's high food safety standards. Furthermore, they aim to do much more for both the environment and the animals by opting to be a member of the well established Irish sustainability programme, Origin Green.

Every year we aim to attend trade fairs that allow you to come and witness everything that Ireland's finest seafood suppliers have to offer. You can avail of the opportunity to taste high quality seafood by visiting our Origin Green pavillion at any one of our shows. The next one to come and visit us at is Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona and we welcome you over to the Irish stand and we can gladly introduce you to our Irish seafood producers.

Organic Irish Salmon and Mussels Organic Salmon - Seafood - Working in Harmony with Nature

Ireland is known across the world for its high-quality organic salmon and mussels. It is home to the perfect growing conditions for both species, with Irish organic salmon, for example, swimming the equivalent of over 13,000 kilometers over a period of 18 months as it grows to maturity. Due to the space and length of time that the fish spend in the water, it results in a firm meat with low fat content and when cooked has a pure and juicy flavour. The same can be said for Irish mussels which are farmed for with the utmost care for nature and leads to a pure product to be consumed by individuals all over the world.

All of Irish salmon and mussels are certified to strict organic standards, with the feeding and nutrition of the salmon, in particular, closely monitored. Therefore, you can always trust that Irish salmon are fed natural ingredients that are GMO-free and are sourced from sustainable fisheries. Additionally, the welfare and health of the salmon is a top priority for all Irish salmon producers, which means that all organic Irish salmon live in a seawater environment in which the ratio is 99% seawater and only 1% salmon. Ireland is also a pioneer in organic mussel farming and use renewable energy sources to farm and allow the mussels to feed on natural plankton in the Atlantic waters.

All of these criterion means that Irish salmon and mussels are certified with the EU Organic label and are also able to obtain other highly respected and well-known standards such as that of AB Organic and Naturland.

Origin Green - Ireland's leading sustainability programmeOrigin Green Trustmark

Ireland's seafood producers are committed to protecting and responsibly using the country's marine resources through their membership in Origin Green. Origin Green is Ireland's leading sustainability programme for food and beverages, which was launched in 2012 by Bord Bia, the Irish food board. Origin Green is the only national programme of its kind and plays a crucial role in maintaining Ireland's reputation for food and drink that is sustainably produced by people who care.

Origin Green commits Irish seafood producers to better performance in areas such as raw materials sourcing, emissions, waste, water, biodiversity and social sustainability. All producers are audited by third party experts in the field and only those that meet the specified targets can obtain an Origin Green medal and reap the benefits of the programme, such as taking part in the trade fairs and being represented under the Origin Green pavilion.
