Hey guys, I hope you are staying inside your house.
Generally, students going abroad to study or work gets homesick easily. Staying away from your family and your country is tough, but not in Ireland. In Ireland, you would not feel homesick at all.
You might be wondering how and why?
Let’s start with the ultimate thing that could make any literally any Indian homesick
I know you might have guessed it till now, it’s none other than.
MAGGI
But wait there’s a catch to it, as we would want to know how much this going to cost us?
In Ireland, you get the ₹12 Maggi packet for €0.50 which is ₹40! Yeah, I know it kind of expensive when you compare to India but when you compare to other food products here you will be more than happy to pay for Maggi.
As we are talking about food so let me inform you that, most of your favorite Indian food such as biryani, chole, chicken tikka, samosa, vada pav, pav bhaji, rajma, idli, dosa, rasam, parathas, and all other delicious food are all available here in Ireland.
So food is not something that would not make you feel homesick.
The second most important thing that generally students or anyone would miss is their family. Obviously no one can replace your parent or grandparents but Irish people are really nice especially the older people you can talk with them anytime even if you don’t know them, most of them will always be up for a nice conversation with a beautiful smile on their face and this would really make you feel happy and you won’t feel homesick (this worked for me at least). Still, if you feel homesick obviously you can call up your parents for a video call.
As we are talking about video calls, we all know that to do video calls we need strong internet and unlimited data. Just like India has Jio, Ireland has Three and Vodafone who offer you unlimited data for a month and there is no cap limit for each day (yeah but they monthly cap, still it’s impossible to use that much data). So you stay connected to your family all the time.
Apart from food and family what you would find similar is people Ireland does jaywalk all the time just like we do in India.
Ireland is not a populated country, it has 4.83 million which is not even ¼ of Mumbai’s population, so there is a chance you might feel lonely while walking on the street, as Indians we are used to be walking on a street full of people, animals, and other things. So if you ever want to be surrounded by people and get the feel of walking on Indian streets just head to the city center (Grafton street and Henry street in Dublin specifically), you will find a lot of people over there. Obviously you won’t see a cow or animal sitting in the middle of the street, but in any case, you see cow or animal sitting or roaming on the street without a leash, lad you are HIGH AF.
So these were few things which would not make Indian students feel homesick.
Stay safe, stay inside and don’t forget to quarantine & chill...
