With summer just around the corner, I know that my fellow lovers of music genres such as R&B, Trap, Hip-Hop and Afro beats, are really looking forward to a summer filled with sun, our favourite musicians and good vibes. Urban music is finally getting the recognition that it deserves, and as black twitter would say ‘we love to see it!’. So, whether you’re a Travis fan, a Davido fan, a Stormzy fan or you just want to be surrounded by the urban culture, you definitely do not want to miss out on these 5 festivals this summer 2020!!
1. Love Box
Location: Gunnersbury Park, London
Date: 12-14 June
Lovebox is a British music festival that began way back in 2002 as simply a club night and has grown and grown over the years to become the major festival it is today. Each summer a diverse line up of different urban music genres are brought together for weekend in Gunnersbury Park in west London. This year the headliners will be Tyler the creator, Disclosure and Khalid as well as other big names such as Jorja Smith, Anderson Paak, Mabel and Charli XCX. If you’re looking for chill vibes, chill people and chill music then this is the festival for you!

2. Wireless
Location: Finsbury Park, London
Date: 3-5 July
Wireless is what we like to call one of the ‘OG’ urban festivals, starting back in 2005, and it has evolved to become one of the biggest stands out festivals in the world for urban culture. Every summer they bring in big household names like Drake, Chance the Rapper and Future. This year they have got an AMAZING line up coming with Asap Rocky, Skepta and Meek Mill performing as some of this year’s headliners. This year also has such a great mix of UK and US artists with Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty and City girls representing the US and DBE, AJ Tracey, Tion Wayne and MoStack representing the UK and there are still more acts to be announced! Wireless this summer is promisisng to be the festival to be this year!

3. Rolling Loud
Location: Praia da Roche, Portimao, Portugal
Date: 8-10 July
Now moving outside the UK, we have Rolling Loud, which is usually only in Miami USA but this year they’ve decided to add Portugal as one of their destinations. Nearly all our major American trap, hip hop and rap artists are going to be performing under the Portugal sun! Lil Baby, Dababy and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie all under one roof? This is really going to be one of those ‘Be there or be square’ moments. Meek Mill and City Girls will also be performing, so if you can’t get enough of them after attending Wireless then this is the place to be! There are still even more acts yet to be announced, but Rolling Loud Portugal is really looking like the motive this summer!

4. Afro Nation
Location: The Algarve, Portimao, Portugal
Date: 17-19 July
If you haven’t gotten enough of Portugal after Rolling Loud, then I advise you stick around for Afro Nation. This festival only commenced last year 2019 and brought the world something it was missing for so long: A fully Afro-infused and Afro-based festivals, bringing in big African artists from all over the continent like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido and Dbanj. Afronation was the place to be last summer and will be again this summer! This year they have included even more acts, with a big influx of francophone artists such as Dadju, Aya Nakamura and Nigerian artists such as Naira Marley, Teni and Olamide. If you are a big lover of Afro beats and African culture, then this festival is perfect for you and promises to be a great time!

5. Oh My! Music Festival
Location: Almere Beach, Netherlands
Date: 18 July
Is the thought of a 3-day festival making you already feel drained and tired? Then have no fear the Oh My! Music Festival is here! You’re still getting all the vibes, the artists and the fun just all compacted into one amazing and full day. This festival has the reputation for bringing some of the biggest names to its stage in genres such as rap, hip hop, R&B, house, dubstep and more, and this year its even been brought to a bigger and better location. Music this year is ranging with people such as Burna Boy, Tyga, Teni and Darkoo coming to perform.
