In recent years Dublin is steadfastly developing a vibrant ‘dive bar’ and social scene that is far from the typical upmarket joints that have previously dominated the streets (think Sam’s or Cafe en Seine). Joining the likes of The Bernard Shaw, The Big Romance and Riot are two newcomers who are bringing a whole new look and feel to the city. Introducing: Ohana and Anti Social.

Opened at the beginning of February, Ohana is Ireland’s first rum and Tiki bar that was inspired by the shores of the tropics. According to owner, Doug Leddin; the name derives from the Disney film; Lilo & Stitch‘s motto “Ohana means family”, and to Leddin “Ohana means everything”. The bar does exactly what it says on the tin with a beautifully decorated venue that SCREAMS tropical paradise.
Located in a Georgian basement, this place offers an escape from reality with a vibrant mishmash of tropical themes and over-sized palm trees spread throughout four ambient rooms. The seating is intimate with rattan chairs, bamboo seating alongside Polynesian mask decorations and a darkened interior. A neon ‘Aloha’ sign makes for the perfect ‘Insta’ pic backdrop
The bar offers around eight cocktails, carefully crafted by master mixologist Paddy Noir, priced from €11-€15; the house rum is Chai, from Trinidad where Leddin is an investor. All drinks are served in various Tiki themed cups: a monkey’s head, a skull, a half-peeled banana and even a treasure chest if you’re sharing a drink. Heads up! At the moment, the patrons’ most popular choice is the Pina Colada.
So if you feel like escaping to the tropics minus the expensive travel, follow this link to book at Ohana and jump into a rum paradiso!

If you’re a fan of large mimosas and grilled cheese sambos then this new addition to Dublin’s fair city is right up your alley (literally).
Founded by the people behind Bingo Loco, Anti Social prides itself on being “a purveyor of fine drinks and unique events”. It does so with a wide range of both craft and draft beers on rotation as well a fine selection of wines. They also provide an exclusive gourmet selection of mouth watering toasties, the ‘Big Cheese’ is a winner!
Originally first made public by DJ Marcus O’Laoire; Antisocial recently opened its doors to Dublin in the last few weeks and even while under extensive refurbishment the team were already accepting event applications in preparation for a hectic launch.
The interior is retro and RED with neon lighting to create a casual Art House vibe. A must see feature is the long red hallway illuminated by neon strip lighting and, of course, the bathrooms which have walls eccentrically decorated with magazine pages.
