Social isolation could be a tough for international students right now, specially when they are away from their family and many of their friends are planning to/ already  went back to their hometown. So I'm sure this phase is overwhelming for many and keeping your spirits up seems tough.  However, isolation is essential to win the battle against this Novel virus, so please avoid public places or hosting parties at home.

To be honest, most of the stuff online which suggest solution for boredom due to isolation is waayyy too boring. Personally, reading books without pictures is impossible and sitting at one place for more than 3 hours multiplies the boredom. So, what are the productive activities to fight boredom and get rid of these depressing Covid-19 thoughts within your house? Let's get to know... with a pro-tip in the end!

1. Level up your Bathroom singing game.

I've learned one thing from my experience, that perfect morning routine leads to perfect day. So during this stressful phase, keep your morning routine most energetic and fun.  So tonight, make sure your speakers are plugged in for charging and choose the song for your morning performance. Trust me, a long hot bath with your favorite tracks tuned-in is the best way to start the day.

Along with that, this activity will not just keep you happy the entire day but it also makes sure that all those tiny germs are murked out.

2. Hey good lookin'!  Whatcha got cookin'?

What else is the best thing to enjoy solitude? Spa! So get in your kitchen, grab that fresh tomato, cucumber, honey etc and enjoy the ultimate relaxation. Home spa is not a rocket-science, don't be so stressed! Here are some easy things you can do at home for spa-like self care at https://www.hercampus.com/beauty/5-cheap-easy-diy-home-spa-treatments ; and once the situation gets normal outside i.e. once this corona thing ends, be ready for compliments ya good lookin' human!

Happiness multiplies when you share it with people you love. So take this phase as an opportunity, learn some new dishes with ingredients available in house and arrange a nice surprise lunch/ dinner/ breakfast for people you're living with.  By sharing such small moments of joy, you're not cheering just yourself but the entire house. And don't forget to share your experience of being real life Santa Claus in comment section below!

3. Get organised.. with beats!

Cleaning up the room and (trying) to keep everything  organised is by far my favorite activity to pass time. Also, one key thing to remember here is that you must play nostalgic songs in background, no matter how weird or cringy those tracks are. This helps to recall stories associated with objects hidden for long time in your cupboard and indulging in these good memories is very important right now for every one of us to get going. Yeah, by 'Get Going' I mean those assignments you're supposed to submit after few weeks; don't forget about that!

4. Time to call out that curious child within you!

As said by Samuel Johnson, Curiosity is one of the most permanent and certain characteristic of vigorous intellect.  There's a hidden child-like mind in everyone, who continuously asks questions which are generally silly and totally out of context.  So, during this self isolation, listen the voice of these random thoughts and questions, research about it and maintain a goal to search at least 3 most random things everyday.

For example, a random thought came in my mind few days back- 'Whenever we read something in mind, you actually hear your own voice in mind, but whose sound runs in the minds of people who are completely hearing impaired since birth'. Silly, random but interesting, eh?! I did my research about it and i was completely satisfied to know about it.

Develop this habit of learning about such new random things; this will also help you to keep a conversation going with anyone!

5. How you doin'?

See?! If Joe could manage socializing from room, so can you! With the internet, it's the easiest thing now. Chat or face-time people who you like the most, people you lost contact with over time or with the people who you don't know at all! Get back in your friends list, check for such people and make sure you talk anything else except the virus situation; just to keep your mind distracted.

And trust me, it's the best time to do this because the person on the other side is probably sitting isolated as well, looking for interesting things to pass the time.

Pro tip: The one hour update routine.

No doubt, it is imperative to keep ourselves notified about this Covid 19 situation through media and news. But probably the bane of living in information rich era is that we're constantly bombarded with information  24x7. So make sure you give only one hour maximum in a day to know about corona virus updates. This is just enough in your hibernation cocoon.

Also, in this hour, make sure you get information only from credible sources. This will help limiting the panic and stress in your mind and will also limit the spread of fake information. This one hour ideally should be in afternoon, so that you don't sleep/ wake up with stressful thoughts.
