Here are our top 5 surfing apparel and accessories you will want for your beach bag this season!

  1. Wetsuit - Wetsuits are essential when surfing. The best kind are typically made of neoprene and provide therm
al insulation, protection from ultraviolet rays and stings from water creatures, and are durable and designed to stand the toughest of conditions in the water. Wetsuits are typically lightweight and they come in different styles and colors and are designed for both men and women. A wetsuit is worn by many other water athletes and is especially loved by surfers. Surfing requires a large range of movement for the surfer and a wetsuits are designed to be flexible as well as durable and protect you from everything the oceans can throw at you. Sitting out on the water in the heat looking to catch a wave can be hard on your skin due to sun exposure and it is important to find a wetsuit that protects against the sunlight so you can spend your time looking for waves and not worrying about re-applying sun block! A wetsuit is a surfer’s best friend and is a must have for both beginners and professionals!
  2. Rash guard- A rash guard is worn when the weather or water may be too warm to wear a wetsuit, or the surfer prefers one more than a wetsuit. Rash guards are shirts made of spandex-like materials that prevent the surfer from getting rashes from abrasion, chafing from wax, and protects them from the sun. They can be worn under a wetsuit but are a lighter option that still provide protection on warmer days. Rash guards also come in different styles and designs to fit the surfer’s preference and can be worn with swim shorts or bikini bottoms or under a wetsuit. Rash guards are a must for a surfer, especially when the temperatures rise but the sun is shining bright. They protect against animal stings and sunlight just like a wetsuit and can be mixed and matched with other surf gear.
  3. Bikinis and board shorts- Not all surfers wear wetsuits and rash guards. Some wear regular swim suits out on the waves as well as on the beach. The perfect bikini or pair of board shorts are necessary for your day at the beach or out shredding some waves. Swim suits for ladies come in different styles from one piece, to two pieces and range in pattern and color as well as cut of the suit. Board shorts are also an option for women and come in different styles and lengths and can be paired with a rash guard or a swimsuit top. Board shorts for guys also come in different colors and patterns as well as different lengths and styles. Having the right type of swimsuit is essential for this summer on the beach or out in the water.
  4. Gloves, hoods & boots - Even when the sun isn’t shining and the waters are cool, surfers still love to catch the waves out in the ocean. Just as gloves keep your hands warm in the snow or cold, surfing gloves keep hands warm when in cold water or temperatures. They also protect you from cuts and scrapes you may get while in the water. Surfing gloves come in a variety of sizes for all ages and surfer preferences. A wetsuit hood is used to insulate your head and regulate body temperature when in the water. They are used especially in cold water and on windy cooler days. They are also a good idea for people with long hair and helps keep hair out of their face while surfing. Wetsuit hoods are a great item to have especially if you surf in cold waters. Surfers who use wetsuit boots use them for two main reasons, first, to keep their feet warm and second, to prevent sharp objects cutting their feet such as a coral reef. The boots are used to keep a surfer’s feet warm, especially when in cold water and cooler weather. Coral reefs can be very large and have small sharp edges that can easily cut hands and feet. It is important to have fun while surfing but also keep in mind your own safety and health in and out of the water. Cold water may not seem that bad at first, but you will want these easy solutions to keeping your body warm and safe from cuts and scrapes once you are out there.
