Physical Exercise is one of the most efficient ways to improve your health, both physically and mentally. Below I will discuss the benefits of exercise for your overall health so you as an individual can thrive in your life.

1. Improved Social Life

Sport and the gym is a great way to make friends and meet new people. It helps you to build relationships. When I was younger, I was part of a Camogie team. I found this was a great way for me to sustain long term relationships. Once bonds are formed with your teammates, this results in feeling a sense of comfort around the team or gym buddies. Thus, feeling a sense of belonging will help you to sustain  good mental health and positive outlook on life as a whole!

2. Helps with Weight Control

Having trouble trying to shift those extra pounds or do you feel that bad habits keep creeping up on you? If you engage in physical exercise for an hour 4-5 times a week, it can help you keep control of your weight. If you are consistent with your routine, then you should have no problem shedding those extra pounds or maintaining your preferred weight. Sport and physical exercise will eliminate the likelihood of you becoming a couch potato.

3. Improves Brain Functioning Abilities

Are you struggling to with your concentration levels? Having trouble motivating yourself to complete tasks? Well, if you engage in more physical exercise or a gym routine, you will enhance your brain function. The time spent in the gym or on the field will give you a breather and also give your brain a break from college assignments or work tasks that seem to be bogging you down. You will be more efficient with your time you spend studying or working, because you are refreshed and more open as your brain has had a break from thinking excessively for a short period.

4. Relieves Stress

Personally, this is one of the main reasons I engage in physical exercise as much as I do. I go to the gym almost every day to release any stress that has built up. I tend to go in the evening because that is when I have the most energy. All sorts of situations cause stress home, work, college, friends. If we let all these stresses build-up, it can take a toll on our physical and mental health. When we are stressed our immune system is low and we are run down. But if you take some time to engage in some exercise, you will reduce your stress levels, and thus enrich your health!

5. Makes You Happier

Studies have shown that once you engage in physical exercise on amore regular basis, you tend to be more satisfied in your life. When a person engages in any sort of physical activity, this results in chemicals known as endorphins being released. These chemicals improve your mood and you have a more positive outlook on life. If you feel like you need a boost of happiness in your life, you should consider joining a gym or a sports club near you!

6. Improves Your Skin

Struggling with dry or damaged skin? Find no matter what moisturiser or facial products you use it doesn’t seem to help your skin? Engaging in physical exercise or sport is something you should try to help solve this issue! There have been studies that have shown that exercise can help your skin repair itself faster. Exercise will reduce the amount of money you spend on skincare products. It allows you to have glowing skin naturally. I found the gym helped me reduce the number of blackheads and spots I was previously prone to because I was sweating out all the bad toxins build up in my body. Give it a try and see if it works for you!

7. Improves Your Sleep

Do you get less than 8 hours sleep a night or do you  you consider yourself a night owl? Having a regular sleep routine contributes to your health. Regular exercise is a way to reduce any sleep problems you may be experiencing. I found once I started going to the gym on a more regular basis, I was able to go into a deeper sleep. I was no longer walking around college with bags under my eyes or dark circles due to sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep can lead to you developing many health problems. It can also affect the way you learn, react and get along with people.

8. Improves Your immune system

Do you always feel like you are sick or run down? Do you feel that you are picking up every illness that is going around? If you join a club or engage in some form of physical exercise, then you should improve your overall immune system. Once, I started exercising more, I realised I wasn’t picking up, any cold or flu which were roaming around, as much. This is because my immune system must have been more resistant to these and I owe it to me being more active!

9. Helps Build Muscle

One of the main health benefits from physical exercise is it helps you build maintain muscle. There are numerous health benefits to having muscle including reduce body fat and helps keep bone density strong. The gym and exercise is the best way to build muscle and if you have a routine or regular training for a sports team, then you will maintain any muscle you build!

The Bottom Line is that there are a vast range of health benefits of physical exercise and a gym routine. I hope this blog will encourage you to take the huge leap of faith and start to have a more regular exercise or sports routine, to boost your health as an individual. I can reassure you that once you start there is no going back!
