Want to know a little bit about the brains behind our blog? Below we have listed our own personal favourite places to visit for pancakes, particularly necessary for Pancake Tuesday tomorrow (yay!). Get to know a little bit about us based on our taste in (really delicious) pancakes, while also bagging yourself a really simple and tasty recipe for making your own pancakes this Pancake Tuesday! So, put your trust in us, as your own personal pancake connoisseurs! 

 

Aoife’s Choice:

I’m not a big pancake person, however, Alma’s pancakes are too good to resist. They have created the perfect buttermilk pancakes, coated in their homemade dulce de leche. They are topped with brandy and orange mascarpone, seasonal fruits, mint and candied almonds. It is the perfect combination of flavors with the candied almonds giving that slight bit of crunch. Head to Alma early to ensure you don’t miss a flavorful experience this Pancake Tuesday, I might see you there. 

 


Amy J’s Choice:

Voici Crêperie & Wine Bar… Pancakes and wine, do I need to say anymore? This authentic French cafe is located in Rathmines and they really have created the perfect pairing of delicious pancakes and wine. With something for absolutely everyone, for that sweet tooth of yours to those who crave something more savory. From ham and cheese to a banoffee flavoured crepe, you won’t be stuck for something to eat there this pancake Tuesday, or drink! (Did I mention it’s pancakes and wine? PANCAKES AND WINE!!) 

 

Amy K’s choice:

If you’re like me and would love to indulge on Pancake Tuesday, but would prefer to take the healthier route, why not try Eathos on lower baggot street? These pancakes are packed with goodness while still tasting great. Garnished with delicious warm berry compote, an array of seasonal fruits and even topped with flowers. Probably the most instagrammable pancakes you’ll ever see! Get yourself to Eathos - you won’t be disappointed. 

 

 

Aoibhe’s Choice:

If you want to indulge in the comfort of your own home this Pancake Tuesday then why not try this quick and easy recipe? Stack them high and add your desired toppings (chocolate spread, strawberries and cream are a favourite of mine.) Another idea is to invite some friends around so everyone can partake in the flipping and the filling and have your own Mardi Gras Party! 

 

Ingredients (Makes 6-8 pancakes)

125 grams of Plain Flour

1 Large Egg 

300mls or half pint of Milk

A pinch of Salt

A little melted butter (for frying)

Method

  1. Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl.
  2. Next make a well in the centre of the flour and drop in the egg.
  3. Add about a third of the milk and beat well while adding the remaining of the milk gradually until all the flour is worked in. 
  4. Pour batter into a jug and allow it to stand for 20-30 minutes. 
  5. Find your best frying pan and layer the pan with a bit of melted butter. 
  6. Give the batter one last stir and pour a thin layer onto the pan. 
  7. Fry until the batter turns a golden brown colour then turn the pancake (or flip if you’re brave enough!) to cook the other side.
  8. Cook as many pancakes as you desire and add your favourite toppings and enjoy!
