With summer fast approaching, it’s time to take a look at getting our skin prepped and ready to see the sun again. As excited as we are to feel the heat, does the idea of baring it all seem a bit scary? Not to panic – I have decided to share my top 5 tips and products to get you that glowing summer skin in no time!
1. Hydration
Hydration, hydration, hydration! I know it sounds simple but properly hydrated skin is the key to maintaining a youthful glow and with my go to moisturiser being under €20… there is no excuse! Although it's crucial, applying moisturiser alone is not enough to keep your skin hydrated! Drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin from the inside out. Not a fan of water? Load up on fruits that have a high water content such a watermelons, cucumbers and strawberries!
2. Sunscreen
I know we are all dying for that sun kissed glow but it is so important not to forget sunscreen. It’s time to make sunscreen your best friend. Not only does it protect us from the harmful UV rays, it also keeps our completion even, protects against the visible signs of premature ageing and reduces risk of cancer. (Yes please!) Did you know that excessive sweating can remove many sunscreens straight off your face? My all-time favourite SPF is the IMAGE skincare prevention + Sport Sunscreen Spray. This spray is an SPF 50 and is formulated to be more resistant to moisture which means you will have to apply it less often.
3. Don't forget lips!
It’s easy to forget your lips during your skin care prep but they are just as exposed to skin damage as your face. My go-to hydrating lip balm is the MooGoo SPF 15. Containing physical UV filter zinc oxide, sweet almond oil, shea butter, vitamin E, beeswax and strawberry fruit extract – whats not to love? This lip balm is super thick and creamy and a great way to ensure plump lips all summer long!
4. Face Masks
Not only are face masks relaxing, they are a great way to get rid of any dead skin cells on the top layer of the skin, they reduce pores and result in firmer skin. In general, I would use a face mask once a week but on the lead up to summer I recommend increasing it to 1-3 times a week just to get an extra boost. A little more on the pricey side – but definitely worth it is the Caudalíe Instant Detox Mask. A must have this summer in my opinion!
