Last night I decided to start an experiment, over the next 2 nights I will order food from the same restaurant off two different delivery applications. Uber eats, and Deliveroo all which allow for restaurants to reach more customers by providing temporary drivers/riders. For many restaurants this has become the new norm, instead of having to hire there own driving staff. Understanding that some nights may be busier for certain takeaway places, I tried to order my dinner off peak times. This allowing for the restaurant to have similar ETA’s.
While my options were very limited on Uber eats, in total there were about 6 restaurants whereas Deliveroo had about 40 restaurants available to order from. I settled on Eddie Rockets, and Rockets as the delivery times were relatively low on both applications. Uber eats only had Eddie Rockets, whereas Deliveroo only had Rockets which are two different restaurants, yet they are both owned by the same Parents company.
It has always been an interest of mine to see which service would be faster and better. Deliveroo has been in Ireland much longer than Uber Eats which leads me to believe that this would be the better option. While I made sure to order food at an off time for both sites, I was still able to get an accurate assessment of both applications.
Thursday (Deliveroo):
Food: By the time I received the food it was still very warm and didn’t seem that different to how the food would be if served to me in the restaurant. While it is risky ordering online, as sometimes the food can arrive soggy and lukewarm.
Delivery method: Motor Bike
Time: 30 Mins or Less. The food did arrive between the scheduled time.
Application Use: Deliveroo is very simple and easy to use. While waiting on your delivery they send notifications for every step of the way. It makes it nice knowing exactly what is happening and when your food leaves the restaurant.
Saturday (Uber Eats):
Food: The food was similar quality to the Deliveroo order, I think I ordered food specifically that wouldn’t suffer from going cold, or lukewarm. With that in mind the Sweet Potato chips did seem a bit soggier than the first delivery. This might have been just the driver got stuck in traffic or just a fluke incidence.
Delivery method: Car
Time: 20 mins, the food arrived 15 mins late.
Application Use: Simple to use, similar lay out to Deliveroo. Allows for you to see where your rider is before they even pick up the food.
My Personal Preference:
Being a user of both applications, I have found that Deliveroo holds a better quality of service in Dublin. I think that Deliveroo offers more for the customer and can connect more businesses to more people. When Uber Eats first started out the company was able to catch the eyes of many by offering delivery service of McDonald’s but for many, they were out of the delivery zone which caused them to switch back over to Deliveroo. As Deliveroo grows it is clearly improving its conditions among riders and restaurants. They offer a selection of services like online chatting and the ability for the customer to call directly from the app.
I will definitely be ordering more from Deliveroo in the future as I believe the way they go about this particular type of business is the way to do so. Uber Eats did not offer enough options, and for me to be see the rider before he has picked up my food almost made me think the food would in fact show up cold. As I could see he was clearly going to deliver someone else’s food before he even collected mine. I found that it was quite weird for the application to notify me that my food was ready but just waiting for the driver to collect it. He collected my food some 20 mins after it was ready.
Overall I would say both are great options but Deliveroo definitely was an easy, better and fast application.
