Sushi, some love it and some hate it. These Japanese raw fish dishes are often a controversial dinner choice but for those who can’t get enough of the stuff, you are in luck. Dublin has exploded in recent years with new sushi bars and Japanese restaurants. Some will leave you with a newfound appreciation for the cuisine and others might turn you way from fish all together. So how are we to know where to dive in and where to dodge altogether. We have scoured the streets of Dublin and through a rigorous process of some (delicious) tastings of what the city has to offer, here are what we believe are the perfect spots for any of you sushi lovers. Oh and of course we provide links in the titles so you check out the menus for yourself!

1. Musashi

With restaurants across the city from Sandyford to Capel Street, there is a nearby Musashi for most of us. This restaurant provides some of the best quality sushi that won’t break the bank. The restaurant has a wide range of option (all of which are delicious IMO) and for first timers we cannot recommend the ebi tempura rolls enough (YUM!).

2. Zakura

This Baggot Street sushi spot is offering some of the most affordable (as still delicious) sushi options in the city. The restaurant offers a massive selection to choose from but are perhaps best known for their BYOB option. Making any it the perfect way to upgrade wine night with the gals cheaply.

3. Kokoro

While we tend to focus on places that emphasis a restaurant atmosphere, we cannot let you sleep on Kokoro Sushi! While mainly focused on takeaways this little sushi maker is well worth a visit on Liffey Street if you are based in the city centre, perfect for a last minute lunch or cosy night in.

4. J2

Located smack centre of the IFSC this spot gives a brilliant selection of sushi that would brighten up anyone’s lunchtime routine. Oh, did we mention that their lunch specials also make it very affordable? It honestly is a top pick for people who are getting a sushi craving come 1 pm but trust us, it is just a good for dinner too.

5. Takara

This little Abbey Street spot is best characterised by the lunch time rush seen queuing out the door. They mainly focus on takeaways, but their selection is massive and just one look at their bento boxes would convert anyone to a sushi lover. A must try!

6. Michie Sushi

You might have recognised this fast-growing sushi brand from their sushi bars in Avoca, but they also have their own restaurants in places like Sandyford, Ranelagh and Dun Laoghaire. They offer some delicious sushi that is affordable, delicious and most importantly fresh! If you want our recommendation, the Alaska futomaki roll is to die for!

7. Taste by Dylan McGrath

Ok, so if you are looking to splash out a bit in one of the higher end sushi joints the city has to offer, we think Taste is the perfect spot. It may be a pricey experience but trust us its well worth it. Their unique and ever changing Nigiri roll options offer types of sushi you have never tried before; like Wagyu beef and black olive oil, or torched sea bass with smoked bacon and truffle. This is one of the most memorable places and well worth saving up for.

8. Ku Raudo

Finding good sushi places as a vegetarian can be a real hassle but look no further! Ku Raudo has one of the best veggie approved sushi menus around. But that’s not all they offer, they offer a wide range of unique and delicious fillings (most notably the crispy katsu prawn) that will keep the who group satisfied and well fed. Not unlike other spots on this list, Ku Raudo also is BYOB so be sure to stock up on wine and beers.

We of course welcome any suggestions if there are any sushi hidden gems that you absolutely love! Seeing how quickly sushi has grown in popularity in the last few years has benefited us all, I for one couldn't live without access to any of these top quality sushi spots!
