5 great places to go on a first date

A first date is a very important step in your relationship. It sets a precedent for how your date will expect the rest of the relationship to go, yet so many people still get it wrong, do you really want to be telling your future children that the first place you went on a date with their mom/dad was to McDonald's?

Fortunately for you here at Dating in Dublin, we’re always looking for to improve the quality of your dates and your relationship in general so today I’m going to write about “5 places to go on a first date”

Blackbird

First dates can be nervy encounters, you want them to be light-hearted, yet people often feel like they’re under as much pressure as if they were in an interview. What better way to break the ice than playing Jenga with some nice beverages in a chill bar with a funky, retro vibe? And Blackbird provides exactly that.

Located in Rathmines it is easily accessible for anyone based in the South Dublin area. If you choose to go here for your first date you will not regret it due to their wide selection of food, drinks and board games. There is also free WIFI available but hopefully, that won’t be needed as you will hit it off in this great setting and conversation will be all you’ll need.

Dun Laoighaoire Harbour

Want to ask your romantic interest on a first date but feel that it’s to soon to sit down with them for a meal? Why not try taking them on a scenic walk through Dun Laoghaire and along the harbour wall looking out towards Howth Head or even watching the fishermen in action. It’s a perfect first date for a sunny summer’s day (however unlikely it is that you’ll get the sun). you can follow this up by taking them for an ice cream cone in the famous Teddy’s Ice Cream shop (they must be doing something right if they’ve been open since 1950). There’s also a fine selection of bars and restaurants around this area so if you build up a hunger or a thirst you will have plenty of options within walking distance.

This is one of the most popular spots in Dublin for a date on a sunny day with good reason but be prepared as this scenic area can become very busy when the sun comes out to shine.

Leisureplex

Now bear with me on this one, you may be thinking why would I go on a first date with someone to Leisureplex I’m not 12 years old? But here’s the trick in selected Leisureplex locations (Coolock, Stillorgan or Tallaght) on Friday night they host an adult’s night that includes BYOB (bring your own beer) bowling, snooker and pool. A perfect formula for a great first date!

This goes on until midnight so if all goes well it’s the perfect closing time to continue your night by heading out to a nightclub. At the small price of €12 per person, you are allowed bring as many bottles as you can drink between  9 pm till midnight. This is a first date which is sure to stand out from the dates that your romantic interest has been on before and it won’t break the bank either. This date is a guaranteed fun time unless you are as bad at bowling as I am.

Drop Dead Twice

If you feel that just going out for a pint in your local won’t make for a good date why don’t you try something new? Drop Dead Twice offers just that as they give you the option to bring your favourite spirit whether it's gin, vodka or whiskey, then the professionally trained cocktail mixologists will make you up a range of cocktails based off your preferences with the spirit you brought. Drop Dead Twice also has live music and gigs so while you are enjoying your exotic cocktails together you can take in the whole experience Drop Dead Twice has to offer from delicious drinks and rustic décor to live music and divine food that they have to offer.

Since you bring your own liquor you don’t have to break the bank to provide these cocktails, unlike many cocktail spots where you have to pay €10-15 per cocktail you simply pay €25 per person to be provided with two hours of cocktails suited just to you thanks to the experienced mixologists who tailor the cocktails to you in this spot. This is sure to make for a memorable first date and will be a far more enjoyable experience than drinking pints of lager in your local pub.

Rainforest Adventure Golf

If you’re looking to impress someone on a first date than what better way is there than showing that you can tap a ball past obstacles and into a hole? I certainly can’t think of anything. At this mini-golf course, there are two 18 hole mini-golf courses in “Aztec” and “Mayan” settings. The beauty of bringing a first date to a mini-golf course is that you don’t have to worry about awkward lulls in the conversation as you will busy enjoying the mini golf and commenting on your shots. At €7 per person, you get plenty of entertainment for your buck.

Its location is also perfect because it is part of the Dundrum shopping centre so once you’re bored of playing golf there’s a wide range of amenities within a stone’s throw of the mini-golf. If you choose this as your first date location you’re guaranteed to have plenty of craic even though it’s not the most romantic location in the world.

Here at Dating In Dublin we go on the bad dates so you don't have to, so now that we have provided you with great locations to go on a perfect first date all you have to do is find a date and enjoy yourself!
