Congrats, you’ve done it, you’ve found someone that you just love spending quality time with. However, we know better than anyone that being in a relationship is expensive and coming up new ways to get out and about can be stressful. That’s why we’ve put together 5 great, affordable, places to get you started…

Take a look for yourself...

1. The Stella Theatre

This jazz-age inspired movie night will leave you feeling classy and cosy but without the hefty price tag. This iconic theatre located in Rathmines is the perfect venue for you and your better half to enjoy the true glamour of the roaring twenties. If you’re looking for a truly romantic and memorable experience, The Stella Theatre dons the lush and lavish chic that time forgot. This is a restored theatre that transcends the humdrum cinematic experience.

From cultural classics to Hollywood blockbusters, there’s an array of experiences to choose from. A childhood classic, a trip down memory lane, a newly released romantic comedy; whatever you and your beau are into there’s plenty of choice in terms of screening.

If you’d like to cut the costs, there’s a concession stand and if you’re looking to save some time there’s pre-order online option. The menu boasts an extensive range of craft beers and bespoke cocktails. Coupled with excellent table service, the Stella creates a unique experience that takes going to the cinema to new and dizzying heights.

The dimmed lighting, glitzy décor and generously spaced armchairs make for a truly unique and memorable date night. Even better there’s a limited number of spacious couches and beds available that are just perfect for couples at no extra cost.

However, if you’re looking to treat yourself beyond your standard ticket, the upstairs ‘Stella Cocktail Club’ is perfect for a bite before or after the movie, stays true to the theme of the giddy glamour of the era and is reasonably priced.

Unlike a standard cinema visit, a jaunt to The Stella Theatre has the potential to be memorable date night. The food and furniture coupled with flamboyance and flirtation makes The Stella Theatre the perfect flapper-era date.

2. The Waterfront Bistro

Start your weekend off right with lunch at the Waterfront Bistro. As it’s name suggests, this reasonably priced restaurant is situated on the beautiful promenade in Dun Laoghaire.

The two-course menu at €19.95 here is fantastic value for money and the extensive menu is brimming with fresh seafood, other delicious options and artisan coffee.

The views from the restaurant are serene and the relaxing atmosphere is a perfect place for some quality time and is well worth a weekend visit.

A real pull factor of the Waterfront Bistro is its location. A stroll around the People’s Park will take you through the hustle and bustle of the Sunday market between 11-4. A relaxing stroll through the market stalls is great way to spend some time together and work up a hearty appetite.

Dun Laoghaire is easily accessed from City Centre with multiple bus routes (75, 46a), the frequently scheduled DART and there is lots of parking available.

The Waterfront Bistro provides the perfect base for quality food and quality time in a calming and relaxing atmosphere.

3. The Hellfire Club

For those of a more adventurous spirit The Hellfire Club is beautiful hiking trail in the Dublin mountains. Only a short, 30-minute drive from City Centre this historical site, as the legend goes, was once home to the infamous secret society, the Hellfire Club.

Brimming with forest trails, paths of varying difficulties and picnic sites, this is the perfect date for those couples who love the outdoors.

You and your partner can catch your breath at multiple jaw-dropping viewpoints along various routes. The ruins of a burned hunting lodge hold significant status in the tradition that this was the meeting place the ‘wild young gentlemen’. Albeit an iconic site, the Hunting Lodge rests on the top of Montpelier Hill which boasts panoramic views of Dublin Bay.

More than just a hike, this area of the Dublin countryside is teeming with tradition, legend and adventure. Coupled with stunning views, uninterrupted nature and a variety paths, this really is a great spot for an outdoorsy date. The paths are moderate in difficulty so are reasonably accessibly for those less athletically inclined.

As parking facilities are free this is an inexpensive day out and the perfect way to get some fresh air and quality time with your significant other.

4. Dublin Zoo

Our take on a true classic, Dublin zoo is great date destination all year round. In the summer months take a stroll around the African Plains, the Aquarium and take in the views of the faux natural habitats at every turn.

We love Dublin zoo as a date spot as there is plenty to do and see at your own pace. With an abundance of restaurants and cafes, it’s the perfect place to spend some quality time together without breaking the bank.

Tickets starting at €17 p.p. this is a very reasonably priced day out.

If you find yourself looking for a magical experience in the winter months, the wild lights show is breath-taking. Featuring fantasy, fiction and wild animal displays, the lanterns are brought to life in this artistic experience. This is the perfect setting for an evening out with your beau where you can take a stroll through an illuminated wonderland at twilight.

Prices range from €16 - €20 but this is truly an unmissable experience. Even better, as Dublin Zoo is a registered charity, you can be rest assured your ticket will be put to good use.

5. Escape Boats

Located in the City Centre, docked in Grand Canal Dock, Escape Boats is a take on the escape room trend but as the first of its kind, this is a game where critical thinking and teamwork need to be used to escape a ‘sinking’ barge.

Authentic and immersive, the ‘Zorg Ella’ is a great way to put your teamwork to the test. Using clues and problem-solving skills, you have 60 minutes to escape the sinking ship.

Prices for 2 are on the higher side of things at €35 p.p. but the unique and exciting experience is worth the price tag.

This is perfect for couples who like a bit of excitement, a challenge or trying something a bit different. Fair warning; you might see a new side to your partner you never thought existed!
