Constantly hungry? Fed up of cooking pasta and living on pot noodles for dinner?? Look no further- the answer is here!
Being a student in University is described as the best stage of an individual’s life. Freedom, freedom and more freedom are incredibly exciting and fun. Moving out of your family home and living with your pals in the big city is where we create some of our fondest memories of college! But all of this responsibility and independence can be challenging at times. In particular it seems that college students really struggle with maintaining good eating habits when they reach college. All of the partying, socializing and studying leaves little time for students to meal prep or even feed themselves. Luckily there are many incredible dining options in Dublin that coet less than a tenner!! Hard to believe isn’t it?
1. MASA- step into Mexico on Drury street. This trendy, buzzing restaurant produces the tastiest most flavoursome tacos I ever have seen. A cheap and cheerful menu of tacos, quesadillas, and nachos invigorates the senses which bright colours, flavours and spices. The ingredients range from pork, steak and chicken to pineapple, onions and hot sauce. Tacos are priced at just €6.95 for two making it totally awesome for any college student who enjoys an adventurous meal. You can also share with your friends to make it even cheaper! Bookings are not required which is just bliss when your starving after an evening in the library and have not made reservations.
2. Sprezzatura- welcome to pasta heaven. This modern, chic, new hotspot in Dublin has received raving reviews of the incredible tasty Italian dishes it serves. The best part? EVERY dish is less than ten euro. Have I sold you yet? There’s more! Not only is the pasta cheap and on fleek but also the wine is on tap- is there anything more unreal??? I think not. This ‘boujie’ venue is hidden on a side street off Camden Street which adds to the funky vibe of Sprezzatura. Why not gather the crew for a late-night pasta-sesh in this cozy spot? It takes reservations up until 10pm! They also love walk-ins so its super handy for last minute dining plans!
3. Boojum- burrito bliss. I think my love of Mexican has probably generated a biased list but oh well. Who doesn’t love a good burrito??? Coming in at just €6.25 when you produce a student card it’s pretty easy to become a ‘boojum addict’. The best part about this burrito bar is that it is located in so many spots around the city centre – Baggot Street, Grand Canal, Kevin Street, Abbey Street and George’s Street. Basically, wherever there is a street there is a boojum!
4. Mad Egg- You would think this spot serves class eggs, but it actually has no egg dishes. Instead amongst other things it offers D.I.Y homemade cheesecake which means you get to pick your own toppings and design it any way you want. Toppings include caramel, Nutella, Oreo crumbs, Kinder Bueno, Daim pieces and peanut butter pieces. The cake costs €6.95 and makes for the perfect treat after a tough week of partying in college (For any parents reading this- I mean studying not partying!). Mad Egg has recently opened its THIRD restaurant in Dundrum this year.
5. Last, but by no means least- Dicey’s Garden. I’m sure 99% of college students have ventured in here on a Monday for €2.50 drinks but why not venture in for €5 ROAST DINNERS! Yes, just like mammy makes it except its only €5 and you can have it any weekday between 12- 2:30pm. So yes Harcourt street is not just for nights out its also a great spot for fun filled afternoons with your pals! I think I know where you will be going for lunch tomorrow…
So that marks the end of the great list of cheap eats in Dublin. I’m sure there are many more fabulous offers that are not on this list and should be. Or maybe this list really does sum up some of the best ones out there. Either way, I hope this post is helpful and leads to some very fulfilling dining experiences! Please feel free to comment and share with your friends!
